Rusty Tuflite Pro-Ject Update

December 19th, 2005 by aburgonio

I have ridden this board another 4 sessions.  All I can say is THIS BOARD ROCKS!!!  The Rusty Tuflite Pro-ject is fast, fast, fast!!!  After I got used to it, the board was super light and responsive.  It definitely rides different than P/U boards.  It has a light swing weight making the board very snappy.  It is more buoyant than P/U.  This board is barely over 2" thick and paddles like my 2 1/4" thick P/U board!!!  I have it set up with Future Vectors 460 but I am going to try smaller fins to loosen it up even more.  I give this board three thumbs up especially for a board off the rack.  I hardly ever buy a board off the rack.  All of my P/U boards are all custom.  But now that Clark foam is out of business, customs are going to be hard to get.  I can’t wait to ride this board in the huge swell we are getting this week.  I want to see what it can do in good waves…  I will keep you updated…

Surf Product Review

December 17th, 2005 by aburgonio

Stay tuned for new Product Reviews for the Surf Dept.  Just bought a new Rusty Tuflite Pro-Ject.  6"1 x 18.25 x 2.06.  First time I rode it, the board was weird.  Could be a combination of small surf(knee to waist high) and I was sick with a cold..????

Big Al’s 2 cents on Clark Foam

December 10th, 2005 by jmcgrady

Ding-dong the witch is dead…. The closing of Clark Foam is a wake up call for our industry and surfers in general.  Clark’s letter/fax was an example of a deposed arrogant ruler.  Can you say Saddam Hussein?  Yes, there is fallout.  Good people will be closing up shop and losing their jobs.  Prices will definitely go up on hardgoods.  And they should!!! What other industry does one get a handcrafted custom, labor intensive, high performance, made to spec piece of functional art for next to nothing?  How much did you pay for that custom paint and wheels on your car?  $1000?  $2000? 5000?  10,000?  Oh, the paradox!!! However, what will rise out of the ashes will benefit every surfer and the industry. We will be getting a better product!  Just imagine — a surfboard that doesn’t go soft on you in 3-4 months.  A surfboard that is durable and lightweight.  A surfboard that is still handshaped to the surfer’s specs.  A surfboard that actually improves your surfing.   A surfboard
that is not toxic and harms the environment. Just imagine….

Wait, they actually exist, TODAY!!!!

Open your eyes my brothers and sisters.
This is an opportunity for all of us to actually improve the technology of our sport.  To progress our culture and lifestyle. The very craft that we covet is changing for the better.  If you’re still driving a Microbus and rolling "fat ones" in the back ala Spicoli then I will mourn with you over the end of Clark foam.  I will support you and hold your hand knowing you just spent $700 for a foam board.  Remember, if we don’t study the mistakes that were made in history, we are bound to repeat them.  Someone much smarter than me said something like that.  "I am just a surfer. Neither good nor bad.  Not a hero, not a coward. I figured that was good enough for me!"  Dorian Paskowitz.  Peace and keep the stoke!!

R.I.P. Clark Foam

December 9th, 2005 by klatz

on monday the enviromental protection people  shut down the clark foam factory. and Gordon Clark said that this is it, no re-opening or anything. dont get me wrong there are other blank makers out there but none with the customer service and individual customer attention that clark gave. they made it pretty easy for anyone to call in order a blank and have it shipped to your door within a week (if its stocked). shapers like matt biolos (lost), al merrick and dick brewer are starting to utilize different materials like xtr (extruded polystyrene) which will likely increase board prices…. so scramble to your local 9star and hook yourself up with a new stick, afterall winter swells are around the corner and you wouldnt wanna be stuck without a good board.
