Element Helium Decks

April 26th, 2006 by Eric

If you havent heard of them, then you should. One of the lightest and strongest decks in skateboarding right now.

HELIUM

element skateboards is proud to introduce helium, a new, innovative skateboard construction. helium skateboard construction features patented air-frame chambers built inside the deck that add strength while drastically decreasing weight. each of five air-frame chambers within the boards is hollowed, meaning less wood is used, resulting in the lightest skateboard deck element skateboards has ever released. while weight is significantly reduced, the shape of the air-frame is engineered to actually increase the strength of the board by distributing the normal stress from skateboarding equally throughout the board. helium boards are manufactured with traditional u.s. hard rock maple; guaranteed to perform and respond just like element featherlight boards. helium is the next step in the constant progression in skateboard design that element skateboards is committed to. forward ever, backward never.

Danny Way Breaks Bomb Drop World Record!

April 10th, 2006 by Eric

Check this out. Danny way bomb drops from the top of the guitar at the Hard Rock Hotel in good old Las Vegas.

DANNY WAY BREAKS BOMB DROP WORLD RECORD LAS VEGAS, April 7th – On Thursday April 6th, Danny Way broke the Bomb Drop world record by freefalling 28 feet from the neck of the famous Fender Stratocaster guitar on top of the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. Thousands of people gathered around the Hard Rock to watch Danny attempt this world record drop. After 5 attempts, Danny successfully stuck two drops breaking the previous freefall record of 12 feet. Skateboarding vert pro’s Bob Burnquist, Pierre-Luc "PLG" Gagnon, Rune Glifberg, Tony Magnusson, Mathias Ringstrom, and Jake Brown also made appearances at the Hard Rock to ride the MegaRamp and support Danny. Skateboard legends Lance Mountain and Dave Duncan were also on hand to witness the drop. The event, originally scheduled for April 5th, was delayed due to high winds and bad weather.

"Despite the variables in the ramp design, we managed to make this happen," said Danny Way. "This demonstrates the continued progression of skateboarding."
The Bomb Drop event was created by Danny Way and Ignition to launch their action sports mobile phone content company. The event was hosted by Ignition, m-Qube and the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino, as part of the mobile communications industry's annual CTIA trade show. For more information on Ignition go to www.ignition.tv

Congratulations to Danny from everyone at Plan B Skateboards on achieving another skateboarding world record.
Go to www.planbskateboarding.com to watch a video clip of the drop.

Bomb Drop Facts:
- Freefall World Record - measured by Guinness Book of World Records: 28'/8.53m
- Height of drop-in platform on guitar: 78'/23.77m
- Height of the landing ramp 56'/17.1m
- Previous record 12' 3.6" held by Adil Dyani

3 Die in Mammoth

April 7th, 2006 by Eric

Its a sad day up at Mammoth. 3 ski patrollers die while trying to rope off an unsafe area.

April 7, 2006

Contact:  Rusty Gregory, Mammoth Mountain Ski Area CEO 760.934.0645

Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, CA — At approximately 11:29am yesterday, Thursday, April 6, 2006, four experienced Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrollers were inspecting the mountain after recent heavy snowstorms. The patrollers were fencing off a natural hazard, a deep gas vent, on Christmas Bowl run, east of Chair 3 when the snow around the vent collapsed. Two patrollers, John McAndrews and James Juarez, fell into the approximately 6-ft hole, down 21 feet of snow to the earth. Two patrollers attempting to help, Walter Rosenthal and Jeff Bridges, descended into the hole. Members of Mammoth Mountain Ski Patrol working nearby quickly initiated additional rescue efforts and were assisted by the Mammoth Lakes Fire Department and Mono County Paramedics. The victims were immediately transported to Mammoth Hospital. Mammoth Mountain Ski Patroller Jeff Bridges survived and Rosenthal, McAndrews and Juarez perished as a result of the accident.

Mammoth Mountain breaks it’s own record!

April 5th, 2006 by szakeri

Attention all you gnar gnar shredders. Mammoth Mountain just topped it's own record of 617 inches of snow that was set back in the 92/93 season yesterday. Mother nature has dumped and puked about 637 inches so far this season and it's still snowing heavily up there. Curently there is a 22 foot base and it's still building up. So what are you waiting for? bring them dried up boards to the shop so that our trusty slaves… I mean techs (Jay, Sean and Aryeh) can put a fresh coat of powder wax on your stick and send you on your way to shred. What's that? can't make it in yet? it's ok because we all the recent snow, Mammoth has extended its season well into July. What's better than Hot dogs, beer and snowboarding on 4th of July?
