Nine Questions w/ Kelly Hart
July 11th, 2007 by jmcgradyThe LRG Team is coming to hang out at Nine Star Los Angeles on July 27th. Chico Brenes, Karl Watson, Adelmo Jr. & Kelly Hart will be there signing autographs and probably skating the 5 stair or maybe the mini. So you'll have to wait til 8pm on the 27th to meet the whole LRG team, but you can catch up with LRG wonderboy Kelly Hart right now, cause we hit him with the 9…
Where have you been? Rumor has it you were hurt?
lately ive just been back home in Laguna, skating a lot. but yes a little over 2 years ago i snapped my left foot pretty much in half. i had to get 2 surgerys… it really sucked. it took me about a year and a half to get back on my board. but im so psyched to be skatin now
As steezy as your part in was the Kayo video, we want to see more. You’ve been working on a new part?
yea. right now ive been skatin, and trying to film for the new kayo video almost everyday. Ive been going out with my friend Dana Shaw, the kayo filmer. i really like skatin around OC a lot for some reason. a lot of cool random spots.
What’s the vibe like on a LRG trip?
I just went on a trip to vancouver about a month ago with LRG. it was so sick! everyone on the team is so hilarious. its non-stop fun the whole time. I'm really psyched on being apart of the LRG crew.
Have you ever had to skate a demo in a mall parking lot? If so, did it make you feel like a dancing monkey forced to do tricks for little children?
Yea ive definitly skated a bunch of demos in a mall parking lot before. i guess i do feel like a dancing monkey a little bit haha. but no skating demos is pretty mellow. its not my favorite thing to do but whatever. id rather just play skate in the parking lot with some kids.
Rancho Santa Margarita vs. Drinking Margaritas
white fitted hats, and lifted trucks vs. hangovers
Everyone knows about your buttery tray and hard flips, are there any other tricks you’ve secretly mastered but have yet to unveil?
umm i dont even know! i guess its just what im feeling at the moment. I do like doing nollie varial flips tho.
You’re consistency begs the question, who would you fear in a game of s.k.a.t.e.?
well thats a tough one… nate sherwood maybe just because ive never done a pressure flip in my life. Truthfully tho im not a big fan of playing people in skate because some kids definitly have the wrong way of thinking when they play… they'll worry about beating u so much they dont even have fun playing the game! i really like playing my friends tho. jack Curtain is probably one of my favorites to play against. we definitly battle eachother pretty hard.
According to everyone in Los Angeles, Orange County is nothing but tons of hot girls. Has being an AM helped boost your status with the ladies?
dude there is definitly alot of beautiful girls out here. i dont think really that being AM or anything has to do with being noticed by girls… i think its just the fact that im a skater and look different from all the bro's out here. its almost like all the dudes out here look exactly the same. but anyways i have a girlfriend so it doesnt really matter anyway!
Urban vs. Suburban: where do you like skating more?
seriously i like skating both just as equal. I really like just being able to cruise around at a spot without bumping into other people and just being free to do whatever. sometimes you can do that in the citys and sometimes you cant. same within the suburbs.
Insight into the elusive Jim Greco
July 5th, 2007 by jmcgradySexy Sector Selection
July 2nd, 2007 by jmcgrady
I picked up a fat wad of long boards the other day at Sector 9 and tried to cram them in my car. The ride back to Nine Star was not all that fun listing to the rattle of 20 boards gettin busy with each other in my back seat, but my loss is your gain cause we now have a butt-load of freshy new long boards for you to pick up, perfect for summer cruising. Oh, and I did get a glimpse of Sector 9's new bowl they built at their facility in San Diego, pretty sweet.
Slater retires? Poor loser? maybe
July 2nd, 2007 by jmcgradyLooks like Kelly Slater is leaving the world tour and retiring from professional surfing forever cause he was knocked out of the Rip Curl Pro Search event in Chili over the weekend. The Australian Associated Press is reporting that Slater was “extremely disappointed” and booked himself onto the next flight back to the US right after his heat. [full story click here]
If this story turns out to be true, it wouldn’t really surprise me. Anyone that talented, who’s been on top for so long, always ends up being pretty weird. I think it may be because they live in a kind of alternate reality than the rest of us. I mean, Kelly Slater is basically the Tom Cruise of surfing, and I think Slates’ could very possibly be hitting his “oprah-couch-jumping” breakdown right about now…
