For this month's skate the shop competition we decided to give the 5 stair a rest and headed outside to break in our new Mini Ramp. Here's how it went down…about 20 kids entered…there were not enough female skaters to split the guys from the gals, so Hanna and Allysha had to go up against 18 boys…more on that later…the first round was a 1min 30sec run…we then cut the pack down to 6 finalists(Matty, Elijah, Jeremiah, Hanna, Alexi, and Adam)…there were also 3 little rippers(Morgan, Allysha, and Evan) that we felt deserved their own final, so we let them battle it out for a Nine Star Deck. The finals were a tiring 2min run. Blah blah blah…let's let the photos do the talking…

Nine Star's Skate The Shop contest is held on the last Sunday of every month at 6pm. It's either held inside the store on the 5 stair, or in the mini ramp. First Place is always at least $100 Gift Certificate to Nine Star. Other prizes vary depending on what kind of gear we can round up. 

 It case you are not familiar with the Win Your Wish List contest, here's how it works….every December we leave out some fancy laser light beam scanners…so you grab a scanner and you go around scanning the bar codes on all the product you could ever wish for(up to like $2000 or something like that)…then you take the magical scanner to the computer and load it up to our Nine Star computer elves…you can then print out, or email your wish list to people who are going to be holiday shopping for you…this way you get the gear you want…this nifty little process also enters you in the contest to win your entire wish list!!!

 ….so Jake was the lucky winner this year…his mom actually bought him a bunch of gear from his wish list, so we gave him a $525 gift certificate to make up for that…what mom didn't get him was his Rome Artifact 150 snowboard, and his cherry red Burton Custom Bindings…so we dialed Jake up with his new shred stick and binders to complete his ultimate wish list…I think Jake bought a new Fit BMX bike with his gift card…anyway, Jake got seriously hooked up from Nine Star this holiday season…and I don't think we could have had a more excited and genuine winner. The photo says it all! Congratulation Jake!

The UCLA Snowboard Team Captain Charles Evans Jr. came by Nine Star the other day and showed us some pictures of him ripping at Mammoth this winter. The pics were so good, I had to hook him up with some 9*blog action.

Aryeh, Amanda, myself(Jay), and our pilot Warren had quite a long ride home from Mammoth. I think we listened to every song on Warren’s ipod. Well…not really, but it seemed like it. For those of you who have never made the drive from Mammoth to L.A….take my word for it: it’s long and boring. What’s up? So Team Nine Star just got back from Mammoth Mountain, California. We took a trip to check out the on snow demo. For those of you that don’t know, the on snow demo is an event that takes place every February. It gives shops a chance to try out the 2007 Snowboard products before they place their orders. It also involves a bunch of bro blah bra time as well as a bunch of all day partying(thanks to the Nitro booth for the 10am Jagermeister shots).  I tested out some of the NEW brands that we will be carrying next year: Rome, Nitro, and Solomon. We will also be carrying Ride, but I didn’t get a chance to try one out.(Sean did, he loved it).  I tried a Rome Anthem 156. I don’t know what else to say except it ruled. The Solomon boards were solid as expected. I tried two boards from Nitro, the Misfit and the Supra Team. The Misfit is one of their most popular boards and I could see why. It’s a good all around board for a great price. The Supra Team was excellent. I could ride it as hard as I wanted and it held a great edge. I’ll probably end up getting either a Rome Anthem, or a Nitro Supra Team next year or maybe both…I liked them that much.

So you all know Meron. He’s our BMX and BOH masta killa. He went to Las Vegas with all the BMX heads from Nine Star for a BMX trade show. I guess it was a long weekend because when I got to work on Monday morning, this is what I saw. I think he went from Las Vegas straight to work.  Hey Meron, why don’t you post a blog telling us about your journey?

Nine Star was fortunate enough to host a video premiere for BAKER 3.  Jim Greco and Erik Ellington showed up about 10 minutes before showtime to sign autographs. Then they stayed and watched the video with us. Ellington hung out for a while after the show and skated with the kids. I have some video but I can’t figure out how to load it. It’ll be up soon.

The video was great by the way. You should buy it.
