Deathwish Skate Team At Nine Star West LA

September 27th, 2008 by szakeri

Baker has a Deathwish and so did Nine Star on Friday September 26th. Greco, Ellington and the crew were booked to show up around 6pm but the buzz was strong at Nine Star right around noon with kids hanging out and waiting for the Deathwish Skateboard crew to show up and sign autographs and just chill with the Nine Star skate rats. I think a few kids had even ditched their last two periods in school cause I've never seen so many kids just chilling at Nine Star on a weekday since school started a couple of weeks ago. At around 4 pm there was about four different game of skates going on all around the store with three more in the parking lot and the ramp was jam packed. Finally around 6 pm Greco pulls up in his Caddi and right after Ellington pulls up into the parking lot. Once they were spotted the atmosphere had changed and the everyone was psyched. The two handed out some tour limited edition posters and gave out decks and Tee's to kids and signed anything and everything thrown their way from posters to cell phones and even some cleavage (don't worry she was over 18, as a matter of fact I think she was someone's mom!) Things got even more interesting when Lizard King showed up outta nowhere. He was a bit late for the session cause I think he took a wrong turn and ended up in some sketchy spot before he could find his way to Nine Star. If you missed this event, then you missed out big, but don't worry, Deathwish has sponsored the Skate The Shop this Sunday so make sure you show up and check out the action over the furious 5 stairs.

Nine Star Skate Team Wins X-Games Gold Medal

August 3rd, 2008 by szakeri

Nine Star skate team came thru huge today by putting together solid lines all day to take X-Games 14 Shop Gold medal. The team took silver last year and upped the ante this year by bringing home the gold medal this time around. The day started on a good note when Nine Star's own Jeremiah Bohnet beat 15 other skaters from the top high school in the NHSSA division to become the X-Games' best high school skater in the nation. He threw down hard and big and claimed top high school skater midway thru his jam session and took first place unanimously. After the High School X-Games The Shop Challenge began. United eliminated ZJ Boarding house and moved onto the final while Nine Star battled Active ride shop and eliminated last year's champs. The battle between United board shop and Nine Star was a very tight one. Both teams were skating very hard and fast. The United skaters were throwing down consistent big tricks over the grass gap and then moved onto the roof gap. This pumped up the Nine Star Skate Team even more and they decided to spice things up. Andrew Gallagher was throwing huge Benihana's off the grass gap while Aryeh Kraus was ollying over the hubba ledge of 5 flat 5 to the side of the obstacle. Andrew Pott was also busy stomping hard flips and front side flips off the roof gap. Wen it all came down to it, team Nine Star just had too much momentum and ammo and brought home the gold medal! Congrats to Team Nine Star and everyone who came down to cheer on the team. All you skate rats who woke up early and took the bus just to come down to staples, we appreciate the support.

Jereme Rogers digs it, do you?

August 18th, 2007 by szakeri

It's not an unusual sight to see Jereme Rogers hanging out at Nine Star WLA on a daily basis kicking it with the local skate rats and playing a game of skate from time to time when he's not skating the Dew Tour or the X-games. For the past 3 years Jereme Rogers has been a regular at Nine Star and even premiered his video "Mr. Rogers Neighborhood" at the Mission Viejo Nine Star. Just a couple of months ago Jereme decided to move on from Girl Skateboard and get on a different team which now is Plan B. In the meantime he was still skating hard and his choice of decks were none other than the Nine Star shop decks. We congratulate Jereme Rogers getting on Plan B alongside his good friends P.Rod, PJ, Sheckler and rest of the Plan B team.

Frontside Nollie Heelflip at Samo High pond gap. We had to bribe the security guard $60 bucks to let us sesh this gap. His name is Kevin and his price is $60 bucks for every 30 minutes.

Stereo Sound Agency Demo @ WLA Nine Star

June 5th, 2007 by szakeri

Just in 2007 alone so much has happened at Nine Star (Plan B demo, matix demo, 411 video premiers, Jereme Rogers autograph session, Skate the shop contest, skate the ramp contest, March Madness game of Skate Tourney are to name a few) that I can’t even remember all of them. But the Stereo demo is sure one event that will be remembered for a long long time, Stereo Sound Agency made it’s presence felt strongly by rocking the house and the Nine Star Mini Ramp. The team showed up accompanied by Chris Pastras and Jason Lee, The co-founders of this core skateboard brand. The team plus Pastras and Kevin (Stereo Team Manager) rocked the Mini Ramp while DJ Jp was rocking it on the 1’s and 2’s inside the shop. There were tons of skate rats skating the shop inside as well. Shortly after some mini ramp skating the stereo video was on the screen and it was a solid video with Jason Lee starring in it. After the video premiere Team Nine Star started to skate the 5 stair. Boston’s own Nate Principato was popping some mad tricks and earned himself a deck from Stereo. Ian Preston was also back in town and throwing down hammers (kid’s pants are so tight I don’t know how he even ollies without them tearing off!) He also earned himself a deck and some wheels courtesy of Stereo Skateboards and Hi-Fi Wheels. Everyone that attended the Demo went home with a goodie and crowds were super stoked on the Stereo Sound Agency Demo. The 5 Stair demo ended when Richard Massie landed his signature backside double flip. Soon after the racks were placed by the stairs to prevent anyone seshing the stairs,  Boston Nate Dogg decided that he’ll just ollie over the 5 foot rack and the 5 stair. Just when I thought that I had seen it all after Mike Mo Capaldi’s 720 flip on the 5 Stair, Boston Nate Dogg proved us otherwise. This kid can Ollie over anything. Boston Nate’s move inspired Andrew Gallagher to try the same. After front bonking the rack as a warm up, AG also ollied over the same obstacle and crowds were going crazy!!! What’s Next!?

Jeremiah was stoked to see Jason Lee! He's a big fan!

Even Torey Pudwill showed up for the Stereo Sound Agency Demo.

After the demo was over and the racks were put back to prevent kids from skating, Boston's own Nate Dogg just got all BoStoned out and decided to ollie over the whole thing!

Andrew Gallagher of Nine Star & Stereo got inspired by Boston Nate and decided to ollie over the rack himself.

Surf Demo @ Bay Street

June 5th, 2007 by szakeri

Another summer is upon us and Nine Star officially started it's summer season by hosting the third annual surf demo at Bay street in Santa Monica. Aviso, Surf Prescription, surftech were the manufactures that present representing Rusty, Channel Islands, Surf RX, Lost, Cole,. There were boards ranging from fish, long boards, hi performance short boards and anything in between available to demo. This was a perfect opportunity for everyone to come out and try the boards that they always dream of having. Nine Star has also brought back it's "board trade in" program which enables surfers to bring their used board, no matter how new or how beat up (We even took a board broken in half!) to the store and trade it in for a new stick! The board trade in drive will be effective until June 30th.

Skate The Shop WLA May 07

May 30th, 2007 by szakeri

Hello boys and girls, pals and gals,

Skate the shop was back in action this past Sunday and guess what? It was off the hook and I ain't rappin' fake!  We had some heavey hitters coming thru this time around such as the likes of Andrew Gallagher of Stereo and 9 Star, Nate Principato (March madness winner), Dante Pope (Local ripper and hot shot), Jeremiah Bohnet of 9 Star & DVS, Matty Lemond aka Ziggy (multiple times winner of previous STS) of Nike & 9 Star were just a few to name. The day started with the master chef Chuck Evans aka C-Huck firing up the grill and feeding some hungry skate rats some dogs. Soon after it was on. This skate the shop sesh took place on the 4 stair followed by the 5 stair. after a 45 minute session, there were some serious tricks that went down. Andrew Gallagher's frontside flip (4 stair) to switch hardflip (5stair) earned him the third place and some Hi.Fi Wheels courtesy of Stereo skateboards. Nate Principato, kid who won the WLA march madness and the newst member of team 9 Star straight destroyed the stairs. The kid threw down hardflip, double flip, nollie flip, fronside flip, kickflip stale fish and switch trey bombs. His second place run earned him a Stereo deck. First place went to Jeremiah Bohnet, a kid who was suspended from participating in the Skate The Shop contest as a punishment for what he had done the night before. What did he do to deserve getting banned from STS? lets just say his skateboard flew into the store window the night before and left us with a sky high window replacement bill! Right when the contest started he was given ok by the team manager to put on his jersey and jump right in. Only there was one condition, he had to win and winning he did by throwing down a perfect nollie halfcab flip followed by a pretty damn good looking hardflip! He's also thrown down some switch backside flips (looks like Jeremiah has been hanging with Jereme Rogers) The kid earned himself a Stereo deck, Hi-Fi Wheels and a $100 store credit. The kids in the crowd also got swag from Ogio and Stereo skateboards.

Funny Moments at Nine Star

April 13th, 2007 by szakeri

So wegot this kid Adam K working in our skate dept. and he's a pretty cool kid. A little young and sometimes crazy but overall he's an a'ight kid. Today was the day that Nike Pee Wee Dunks dropped so naturally all the Nike SB heads rolled in and Adam K made sure to buy his before they were all gone. After purchasing his fresh kicks he goes ahead and puts them next to some other kid's shoe box that happened to look just the same as Adam's! So an average Joe would normally raise a flag in their mind and not put two similar boxes next to each other because when they do one might get confused on which box was theirs or not notice at all in times of hurry and just grab the wrong ones, which in this case that's what happened. Adam took the wrong box which contained the other kid's old shoes! But the icing on the cake is when Adam sold his own box of shoes to another customer because he was sure that his shoes were in a safe place (which were actually that other kids old shoes). Now he's stock with some other kids shoes and no more in his size left at the shop. If you see him bummed out tomorrow, just give him a hug……………………..ha ha!

Adam K. at one of his finest moments!

Adam's new Dunks….well at least that's what the box said, this was what was inside it.

What he was hoping to get.

Madness I tell You! MADNESS!

April 13th, 2007 by szakeri

It's mid April and I'm still obsessing about the March Madness. Why is that? is it cause I'm just getting too old and living in the past? naw…That ain't it. What ever it is, it is what it is, you hearrrrd. Since I'm still obsessing on what happened on the West LA March Madness in its final week, I'll give you a recap along with some pix. Basically this year we had lots of surprises and there was not a dull moment thru out the whole contest. The crowd had come in to see last year's champ and Nine Star's own Jorge Comelli. He was the crowd favorite and the most likely to win, although there was fierce contestants in the elite 16 representing local talent along with Nine Star team's Andrew "El Potta" Pott.

Jorge Comelli had to face Nate Principato, a kid who had just moved to LA from Boston in hopes of skate superstardom. JC won the rock paper scissors match up and went first. In no time he handed Nate Principato two letters and in another minute he handed him two more. At this point JC was in full control and almost home. So he wanted to kill Nate Dawg with something special, but that something special attempt went wrong and Nate Principato was on. Hardflip rewinds? Are you kidding me. His style was super clean as Jay Janelle (Our Store Manager) put it "he's like from Tony Hawk Proskater". Nate Dawg did the impossible and the most unexpected, he came back from having a S K A T and knocked out last year's champ and crowd favorite Jorge Comelli. Nate Dawg was on fire that night and as the rounds came, he went ahead and just kept knocking people out one by one til the finals. That's where he played the winner from last week, Richard Massie of Nine Star team.

The Final was as exciting as it could get. Two very different styles of skating and lots of crazy variations of tricks went down and after a long 10 minute game of skate Nate Dawg Principato was declared as the 2007 WLA March Madness Champion. Nate Dawg earned himself $250 Nine Star Bucks, Fresh Park Quarter Pipe, DVS Shoes, year supply of Red Bull and a chance to represent West LA Nine Star versus Mission Viejo Nine Star battle of the champions.

14 & under was no different than the 15+ division. Lots of talent and it was nice to see what the kids had learned since the 2006 March Madness. All those hours spent at Nine Star training had really made a difference in some of the kids and we are so stoked to support these little skate rats and their skating habits. It was also very nice to see a lot of parents there in the younger division supporting their kids. Now I know there are soccer moms out there, but we are definitely brewing some skate moms at Nine Star.

14 & Under final was between Matt "Ziggy" Lemond and Casper Stockwell.  Ziggy went in the final as last years champ defending his title but Casper hadn't shown up for games, he was serious and serious about taking the champs spot. The final was pretty exciting and each skater showcased their special moves, but at the end Matt "Ziggy" Lemond came on top as the victor and held on to his championship for another year. So if you think you got what it takes to beat this kid, then cruise on to Nine Star after school hours and see if you have what it takes.

Enjoy the photos.

Jason Butler came outta retirement and made it into the semis. He's the dude that gets us all our skate goodies and you might see him at the cove skatepark regulating on a regular basis. Ladies, show him some love!

PLAN B DEMO AT 9 STAR

October 7th, 2006 by szakeri

What up skate rats. Those of you who checked their emails in September found out that we were going to hold a Plan B demo at our West LA location. On September 23rd, P.Rod, PJ Laad and Pat Duffy came out and hung out at the lounge for a while. I think they wanted to play some Tony Hawk Pro skater on the X-Box 360 in the lounge. But seeing how there were about 200 skate rats swarming to get autographs, the team members were handed sharpies and the autograph session had officialy begun! After about an hour of autographing away, the team took a rest at the back of the shop and re-fueled on some pizza and drinks. However, after a short while P. Rod, PJ Laad and Pat Duffy all decided that they were gonna sesh the 5 stair and so the racks were moved aside and so were the spectators, making room for a run in. At this point our own Jorge Comelli and Richard Massie also joined the sesh and hammers where thrown down!

Team Nine Star goes to mammoth

August 8th, 2006 by szakeri

Team Nine Star took a recent trip to Mammoth Brothers Park to make their presence felt. The Team, which included Andrew Pott, Richard Massie, Jorge Comelli, Dom Dom, Big Max, lil max, Elijah the board destroyer and Lamanzo were skating the street section hard and grabbing everyone's attention. Let me just say that Team Management of Nine star team is more like baby sitting. Our new team rider Jorge is just full of energy and had to release it somehow. So he decided to buy a BB gun and shoot everyone during our entire trip. That's why on the way back we decided to leave him behind after we got food on the way back home from the trip. But somehow I felt bad so we went back and picked him up again. Next team trip I'm gonna duct tape this kid and throw him in the trunk!  Oh and by the way, it was Big Max's Birthday and he turned 15 while on the road. Happy Birthday Max Karish. Enjoy the photos.

Nine Star and K2 at Mt. Hood

August 8th, 2006 by szakeri

Snowboarding in July has always been very fun. Yes, I said July and you read right. Fortunate few get a chance of shredding the gnar gnar in the middle of summer and Team Nine Star was one of those fortunate few. With many thanks to John and Justin from K2 Snowboards, this summer trip was a fun one. We first arrived at Seattle and that night we went out and checked out the local hang out spot and saw some great bands at a small local venue. The next morning we took the Ferry and headed out to Vashon Island where the K2 Headquarters are located. There we toured the factory and observed how the research and development team design a board and then make a prototype to be tested by their team. After checking out the factory we headed down to Mt. Hood to do a little testing of our own. K2 was kind enough to arrange a 9 hole golf tourney before we made our way into government village. Let me tell you, I have never played golf so drunk in my life! it was around this time where my memory gets hazy for the rest of the trip. I'll just let the pictures tell the story and you try to figure it out for yourself.

Our buyer Eric and his fabulous hair, no to mention sexy shades on the ferry on the way to Vashon island.

First night in Seattle. Seattle has some crazy people. This guy was a fan of one the bands playing at the bar that night. Dedicated!

Summer time slush fest at Mt. Hood. It's so much funner than it looks.

Campers checking out my homemade graphics on my board. (they were x-rated, and note the beer on the board!) I was being the guy these kids' moms warned them about!

Eric cheating by cooling his 40. (note this guy's hair then check out the next pic.) I wasn't kidding when I said this is when trouble began!

Aftermath of playing Edward 40 hands!

John, K2 sales manager forgot to take his shoes off before passing out, which means open season to get messed with while passed out. sharpies, whip cream and marshmellows were involved.

This guy was the only bartender in town and on the third night he threw my ass out the bar. But I managed to get back in somehow. So I was told!

Japanese campers are fun. the one on the left liked to measure everything she got a hold of.

Nine Star at the X-games

August 8th, 2006 by szakeri

Dude, the X-games were off the hook this year. Just when you thought what else can be done that's haven't been done before, Pastrana comes outta nowhere with a double backflip on a motorcycle! As if that wasn't enough, Danny Way  was spotted flying off the Mega ramp doing backflips of his own, ON A SKATEBOARD! The X-games are done and over and all we can do now is just talk about it and re-live the moments once again as these exceptional athletes have set the bar even higher. I can't help to pounder what will take place next year? It seems like all the X-games athletes have gone back to their labs thinking about the same thing "how can I raise the bar next year?" Triple backflips? Backside Rodeos on skateboards? who knows? But I am certain about one thing. Nine Star will be there once again hooking up tomorrow's Danny Ways and Chris Coles and other future X-games competitors with the sickest, newest gear. If you had a chance of going to the X-games. you most likely visited "The Shop by Nine Star" right by the Mega Ramp. It was madness and our crew of employees and our friends came thru big during the four days of the event. Thank you gals and guys. If you weren't there to witness it for yourself, check out the photos below to see what I'm talking about.

I was going thru my photo album the other a day and found some pictures of 9 star peeps from the past year. Like I said, they are totally random. I like looking at photos of random people, but these are not just random people, they're photos of 9 Star employees and 9 star customers that have sent in their photos so they could share their experience with you. Enjoy.

Skate The Shop

May 1st, 2006 by szakeri

Hello boys and girls. Skate the shop back in full effect this past sunday and if you weren't there, then you missed out on some crazy shiznit! The quality of skating was way up there with heavy hitters like Jorge Comelli (9* team member), Richard Massie (4 time winner), Chris (warren's friend who's been sleeping on his couch for the past three months), PJ (he had some crazy style and pleased the crowd) busting tech trick after tech tricks. Even Andrew Pott (9* team member) came out and got a lil' jiggy on the 5 stair and he even brought one of the Mosley Bros with him. The event was co-sponsored by Addict skateboards and they upped the ante by giving out a cash prize for the first place winner. Here's the final results:

first place went to Jorge Comelli who won $100 store credit, $50 cash and a skate deck from Addict skateboards.

Second Place went to Richard Massie who won $50 store credit, a skate deck from creature and one from Addict skateboards also a goodie bag from element. Richard gave away all his winning to the lucky groms standing next to him. talk about being generous!

Third place went to… Sorry dude I forgot your name cause it was your first time at this event.  I'll get it right next time.

Honorable mentions go to groms who busted the ass trying to up the ante at the contest. The list includes That kid Max, Elijah Berle, Andy Miler and the list goes on….

Don't miss out the next skate the shop event and remember to look out for automatic magazines "battle of the shops" where team Nine Star will inailate the competition on May 20th taking place at the Adio shoe warehouse.

Mammoth Mountain breaks it’s own record!

April 5th, 2006 by szakeri

Attention all you gnar gnar shredders. Mammoth Mountain just topped it's own record of 617 inches of snow that was set back in the 92/93 season yesterday. Mother nature has dumped and puked about 637 inches so far this season and it's still snowing heavily up there. Curently there is a 22 foot base and it's still building up. So what are you waiting for? bring them dried up boards to the shop so that our trusty slaves… I mean techs (Jay, Sean and Aryeh) can put a fresh coat of powder wax on your stick and send you on your way to shred. What's that? can't make it in yet? it's ok because we all the recent snow, Mammoth has extended its season well into July. What's better than Hot dogs, beer and snowboarding on 4th of July?

Skate the shop is back!

February 28th, 2006 by szakeri

It had been a while since we had a "Skate the Shop" contest and it was just about time to bring it back. Now for all of you who are not familiar with what skate the shop is, let me explain. Last sunday of each month we clear out part of the store and get the furious five stair ready and lubed up for some hot action. I’m talking anything from an ollie to a switch trey or a hardflip. The furious five has seen it all and still begs for more. Well if you beg hard enough, you shall get what you want, sometimes even more than you bargained for. The Furious five got plenty of action from the usual shop rats including Ian "I kill stairs" Preston, Dante "mad ollie" Pope and Matt "Ziggy" Le mond who also rides for 9 star. The session was so fun that Jereme Rogers of "Girl skateboards" stepped in and wanted to get a piece of the action. We can’t have the ams have all the fun now, can we? Jereme Rogers sure did please the crowd and pump up the kids. At this point even the skate moms were feeling the hype, but this was only the begining. The Jam session went up another notch when from no where Andrew Pott of "Shorty’s skateboards" came flying and busting the highest hardflip the five stair has ever seen. He landed bolts and from then it was on. Ian Preston snagged first place and won a $100 store credit. Matt Lemond got second place taking home a Jereme Rogers pro deck by girl skatebords and a kid named Max got third taking home a "How to go pro" DVD by shorty’s skatebords.  Jereme Rogers and Andrew Pott skating the 9 Star furious five. Just another sunday at 9 star.
