“Life Rolls On” Charity Golf Tourny

July 23rd, 2008 by jmcgrady

The annual “Life Rolls On” charity golf tournament went down this Monday at the Malibu Country Club. Nine Star sponsored the 5th hole, witch was a down hill par 3, so we we’re giving out skate decks to whoever had the most style shredding the grassy slopes. Check out some of the photos below.

Taylor Steele’s “Stranger Than Fiction”

July 13th, 2008 by jmcgrady

Check out the trailer for Taylor Steele's new flick, Stranger Than Fiction! here's a little info from the filmer:

Is pro surfing a complete lie? Is modern wave-riding being faked for glory and profit? Is Dane Reynolds actually a robot? With trademark humor and a trend-setting soundtrack, Taylor Steele's latest genre-defining action flick pulls back the curtain on pro surfing's deepest, darkest secrets. "Stranger Than Fiction" is more than just the newest high-performance line-in-the sand, it's an entirely new era of surfing. Brace yourself for the truth.

Slater retires? Poor loser? maybe

July 2nd, 2007 by jmcgrady

Looks like Kelly Slater is leaving the world tour and retiring from professional surfing forever cause he was knocked out of the Rip Curl Pro Search event in Chili over the weekend. The Australian Associated Press is reporting that Slater was “extremely disappointed” and booked himself onto the next flight back to the US right after his heat. [full story click here]

If this story turns out to be true, it wouldn’t really surprise me. Anyone that talented, who’s been on top for so long, always ends up being pretty weird. I think it may be because they live in a kind of alternate reality than the rest of us. I mean, Kelly Slater is basically the Tom Cruise of surfing, and I think Slates’ could very possibly be hitting his “oprah-couch-jumping” breakdown right about now…

Bobby Martinez wins!!!

May 16th, 2006 by Eric

Updated Saturday May 13, 2pm (local time):

Bobby Martinez has just claimed his first Foster's ASP Men's World Tour victory here at Teahupoo today in front of a huge crowd giving him full support from their boats in the channel.

The young Californian was the form surfer of the event and was a popular winner after scoring numerous phenomenally deep tube rides.

The win now places the stylish goofy footer in second place on the ratings and within striking distance for a full on assault at claiming a world crown.

What a great day and what a tremendous event!

Home Sweet Home

April 6th, 2006 by klatz

it recently rained  so hard that a septic pipe blew and all the sewage was pumped into the "ala wai canal" ( right next to where my house is) and ended up running out to one of the most popular south shore surf spots " ala moana bowl" or just "bowls". some dude paddled out and got some flesh eating bacteria on his skin…. check it out the link its pretty gnarly

Slater Wins!!!

March 10th, 2006 by Eric

Wednesday March 10, 10.30am update:

How about that folks, Kelly Slater has won the Quiksilver Pro presented by Samsung!

In what was a great small-wave final, both Kelly and his counterpart Taj Burrow were on fire and each displayed their complete range of progressive trickery in the two foot beach breaks at Duranbah.

While Taj started slow Kelly notched up two solid rides to gain the lead and from their he never looked back.

Taj to his credit was fighting all the way and it was evident that he was extremely hungry for the win.

While Kelly launched into more aerial manoeuvres to consolidate on his lead Taj was chipping away closing the gap but unfortunately time ran out for the West Australian and Kelly walked up the beach with a huge grin and another first place trophy.

Could this victory influence his decision to continue on with the job and aim for an eighth world crown? Let’s hope so!

In the semis held earlier the tour rookies Bobby Martinez andAdriano de Souza showed that they are going to rattle the cages of the big guns this year as they both solidly pushed all the way.

Well that’s it for another year, and what an event it was.

For all the video highlights packages, stats, heat results and anything else that may be of interest peruse both www.quiksilver.com or www.aspworldtour.com

Hooroo! (Aussie speak for goodbye)

The Quiksilver Pro is the first event of 12 on the Foster’s ASP Men’s World Tour and will dish out a $US280,000 prize purse. Its primary location is Snapper Rocks on Queensland’s Gold Coast but the event can move to nearby venues to take advantage of the best conditions on offer.

We dropped an F Bomb!

Picture_0518.jpg

Picture_0517.jpgAnyone remember the Rip Curl "F Bomb" Giveaway we did here on the site? Well we finally got around to picking a winner and Dawn in Thousand Oaks was the lucky winner. Congrats Dawn, have fun! Here’s what Dawn had to say about it:

I finally got the wetsuit in the mail and the very next day I had to test it out.  Me and a couple friends went out to Rincon on the 30th and scored some 4-5 ft waves and without a really heavy crowd.  I took a couple shots after we got out of the water in the parking lot.  all I have to say is this is the best suit I’ve ever owned.  So warm, comfortable, and it looks freaking cool!  I think I like the lil zip stash pouch around the calf the most though haha.  Thanks so much again, I really needed a new wetsuit, this couldn’t have happened at a more opportune time!

Rusty Tuflite Pro-Ject Update

December 19th, 2005 by aburgonio

I have ridden this board another 4 sessions.  All I can say is THIS BOARD ROCKS!!!  The Rusty Tuflite Pro-ject is fast, fast, fast!!!  After I got used to it, the board was super light and responsive.  It definitely rides different than P/U boards.  It has a light swing weight making the board very snappy.  It is more buoyant than P/U.  This board is barely over 2" thick and paddles like my 2 1/4" thick P/U board!!!  I have it set up with Future Vectors 460 but I am going to try smaller fins to loosen it up even more.  I give this board three thumbs up especially for a board off the rack.  I hardly ever buy a board off the rack.  All of my P/U boards are all custom.  But now that Clark foam is out of business, customs are going to be hard to get.  I can’t wait to ride this board in the huge swell we are getting this week.  I want to see what it can do in good waves…  I will keep you updated…

Surf Product Review

December 17th, 2005 by aburgonio

Stay tuned for new Product Reviews for the Surf Dept.  Just bought a new Rusty Tuflite Pro-Ject.  6"1 x 18.25 x 2.06.  First time I rode it, the board was weird.  Could be a combination of small surf(knee to waist high) and I was sick with a cold..????
